キルトパーティのスタッフになって4年、私も最初は斉藤謠子の一ファンでした。

デザインや配色もさることながら、仕立ての美しさに目を奪われ、本を食い入る様に見つめたものです。教室に入学し、生徒になってからは、授業の中で幾度となくパッチワークの道具について、斉藤の話を聞く機会がありました。それはお仕着せではなく、斉藤の経験談、体験談という感じでとても楽しい時間だったのです。そして、半信半疑で使ってみると、今まで不器用だからと諦めていたことが、道具一つで解決することがありました。そして、道具をうまく使うことで作品が早く仕上がるのです。それは次への創作意欲へと繋がり、上達への近道でもありました。

スタッフになった今、斉藤のこだわりは一つの物への執着心ではなく、常に良い物を見つけていく、探求心なのだと思います。最近では、キルト展などでいろいろな地方へ伺うことも多くなり、一般の方々にも斉藤の話を聞いていただく機会が増えましたが、それはほんの一部です。斉藤のこだわりを少しでも多くの皆様に知っていただき、キルト作りの参考にしていただけたら・・・・そんな思いでこのコーナーを作りました。

My passion for good tools

Hello! My name is Hayashi.I am currently working as a staff member at Quilt Party for Yoko Saito. Before that, I was just a big fan of Yoko Saito. I was fascinated by the design, color scheme, and beautiful quilting of her works, and I stared intently at her books. After I became a student of her quilt class at the Quilt Patrty shop, I had many opportunities to hear Saito's talk about the sewing tools. It was a very enjoyable time, as it was not something I was forced to learn, but rather a story of Saito's experiences. And when I actually used the tools that Saito recommended, I found that many problems could be solved with just one tool. By using the tools well, I was able to do things that I had previously given up on because I was clumsy, and I was able to finish my work faster.This led to my motivation to create more, and it was also a shortcut to improvement.

Now that I work at Quilt Party for Saito, I realize that her passion is not an obsession with one thing, but rather a spirit of inquiry that is always searching for good tools. Saito often travels to many places, including overseas, for quilt exhibitions and other events, and has had the opportunity to speak to many quilters, but that is only a small part of what she has to say. I started this corner in the hope that through our conversation with Saito, more people will learn about her attention to detail that goes into good tools.I would be happy if it can serve as a reference for your own quilts.
